In the mid 19th century many inventions were proposed but not built. The civil war saw the use of many new innovations, such as the submarine, ironclad, mines, telegraph, balloons, and rifle.
In England the first tank (a steam tractor covered in armor plating armed with a cannon and scythes on the wheels; it was inspired by Da Vinci's war machine) was invented but rejected by the army because it was considered uncivilised. What if the inventor brought his design to 1861 America? Would the Confederacy have built them? If they did what impact would it have had on the war?

It seems the scythes would be easy to avoid, as I have observed steam tractors arent too speedy. A s for the Cannon, it may turn into what the ironclads experienced, a hot untolerbale air to breath in.

I think it would have been denied, veiwed as a waste of iron, or veiweed that the Cofnederacy's iron would be better ussed for cannons and guns and such.

I imagince it would be a prime anti ship cannon. Could free some harbors, yet unliekly since the ships would be out of range if they were smart.

The North, being more industrialised would have been more likely to have used them.

The American Civil War was not the first time iron clad ships were used. The Korean Admiral Yi Sun Shin, one of the greatest naval commanders in history, first used them in 1592 to fight the Japanese during the 7 Year War 1592-1598. Admiral Yi's victories hampered Japan's conquest of Korea and prevented Toyotomi Hideyoshi from invading Ming China.
