I know history is supposed to be everything 25 years ago and up, but I recently watched Blood Diamond and thought it was great at portraying the constant strife and switching of hands of African cities in our own era. Have any of you seen this movie and do any of you have any insights into the facts and fiction?

I just saw blood diamond a little over a week ago and I thought it was a good movie. I didnt know much about the diamond trade. It certainly made me think twice about buying a diamond. I think if there is any truth to the movie its is the political restlessness of Africa. The rebels and genocide. Even the movie Tears of the Sun and Lord of War there was portrayal of rebels and poltical instability.

Do not forget Hotel Rwanda. I actually met Paul Rusesabagina last winter after he gave a speech. I found the media portrayal in Blood Diamond to be amazing. I watch CNN or MSNBC today and what do I see? News about million dollar homes burning in California, Ellen Degeneres crying about some lap dog, or Britney Spears fighting for custody of her children, meanwhile people continually die across the globe due to violence.

I never saw Hotel Rwanda. I also havent seen Black Hawk Down. I despise the media's constant coverage of celebrities. There are more important things going on in the world than whats going on in Britney Spears life.

In this case, what is not.

I liked the premise of the movie "Blood Diamond" - I just can't stand Leonardo di Capprio.

See, I couldn't stand him either, due to Titanic, until I watched Gangs of New York, The Aviator, Catch Me If You Can, and Blood Diamond. He has become a really great actor and he picks only the best roles anymore, no more Arnie in What's Eating Gilbert Grape.
