The Trojan War/Horse

Was the one of the greatest deceptions/sneak attacks in the history of the world? Could Troy have been sacked without attacking from within?

I thought the Trojan Horse was a myth. I'll have to look in on it.

I think it's only reference comes from Homer's books, The Iliad and The Odyssey. Unless remains of the horse were found, I guess we wouldn't really know the truth or not.

I think the story of the Trojan Horse is real. Homer's stories must have been based off something. I just can't picture them fitting more than maybe 5 people inside that big wooden horse. But 5 people might have been enough to kill a few guards and open the gates.

I think the trojan horse story is fictional. There's no way the people of Troy would have lowered their defenses and opened the gates with an enemy army not too far away. It doesn't add up.

I think if we are to believe Troy was sacked and destroyed by the Greeks, the a sneak attack from within is the only possible way. The walls would never have been breeched. Either the Greeks used a wooden horse, or they found some underground tunnel that led them in.
