This guy was hit by the tear gas bullet on his face and died later. This picture ignited all South Koreans to oppose to the facists and the companies stopped working hour, letting employees to the demonstration site.

The international community pushed the facists regime to reform the constitution in a way that the popular vote should be established. Otherwise, the 1988 Seoul Olympic would have been cancelled.

His funeral. His name is Lee, Han Yul in the national funeral.
With his death and the international community's pressure, the facist, Chun Doo Hwan could not control the nation, and he finally declared that "the constitution shall be changed to the popular votes."

Chun Doo Hwan as a defendant in charge of the National Treason, Budget Embelzzment, and other crimes such as illegaly abusing his military general authority (which I will discuss later).

In this sentence, Chun Doo Hwan was to death penalty after his charge was confirmed by the jury, but at the time Korean President speically pardon the death penalty, sparing only life mercy. As in U.S., the death penalty can be only enforced with the presidential signature in Korea. (So he is still alive)
