Default Do you think sign language should be banned?

I mean, it ruins everything when you see some people in front of you doing it. Makes you feel uncomfortable, doesn't it? Awkward as well you can say, no? I don't know about you, but it's almost like a crime in society. How do these people manage to live, anyway? Especially without friends or anything?

What do you think?

I think this is a sick attempt at sarcasm, or you are a compassionless Ogre.

Good Evening, Sir.

I know nothing about sign langauge and nothing make me feel moreawkward and uncomfortable than something i don't understand.

Unfortuantly i don't see banning it as the solution, as people will continue to use sign language under ground. There may even evolve a type of club a SignEasy if you please, like the SpeakEasys of the 1930's where people congigrate to communicate in sign langauge and engage in other activities which i don't understand, or enjoy myself; hence making them either communists, terrorists or both.

The obvious solution is to round up all knowen signers, possible signers, the sign friendly, and sign curious etc, then remove their hands. This will prevent the further spread of sign language through our schools and workplaces and strike a blow against Communists and Terrorists worldwide, as they are obviously behind the sudden uprise in Signers

Next, lets ban foreigners for speaking in different languages in our presence.

Terrible idea. Where is your mind?

Great idea, damned dirty foriegners, speaking in a language I don't understand how dare they. They're probally in an unholy alliance with the signers, OMG i wonder if their a group of signers who sign in a foriegn language??????

This evil must be stopped. Signers should have their hands cut off, foreigners have their mouths sewed shut and people who sign in foriegn languages, be made to watch back to back episodes of 2 and a half men.

My cousin learned signlanguage because there was a deaf guy at his work. He learned so that he could communicate with him and include him in the company. One night they were travelling home on the train when this lady got on and sat down opposite. This guy immediately signed something along the lines of 'check out the rack on her' and other derogatory comments. My cousin signed back telling him to quit it, 'you never know who might see what he was saying.'. When the train stopped a couple of stations up the line, the woman went to get off but stopped next to the guy and, in sign, told him that he should pay attention to his pal ... and then get a life!

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how to shout in sign language? Or is expression and body language usually enough to convey the emphasis?

If it is a joke - it is a very bad one. If not - I can't even begin commenting on that.

Years ago I learned just enough signing (since forgotten) to communicate about simple things with a neighbor's 6-yr-old grandchild. She was a sweet girl, but did manage to "shout" in sign and body language both when she discovered a trap for squirrels her grandfather had put out!

I agree with lawnmoweman, but insted of cutting their hands off we should put them in 'work camps' along with all the foreighners and anyone else caught doing this unholy act of sighning. Good ideas MagnaCarta, maybe we should roundup all the blind people and stop them from using thoose annoying sticks aswell...
