I’m a descendant of Heinrich von Dubin, the legendary Komtur of the Teutonic Order (1289–1291). Ask me anything!

I have currently submitted two applications to the Teutonic Order office to become a formal member.
I was thinking to the other Hospitallers, the Knights of Malta. Historically the Teuton Order is a kind of hybrid which puts together aspects of the Templars and of the Hospitallers [the members of the SMOM, the Sovereign Military Order of Malta].

In any case, best wishes. Nowadays, as for I can know, it's a decision of the GrandMaster [after a suggestion by the Council] and you need no more to be a bit noble [until 1929 this was the rule, as for I can understand].

I have heard that one can only become a Maltese Knight by invitation, but I hope I am wrong. If I cannot become a Teutonic Knight, I would like to become a Maltese Knight. It is a great honor for me to be a Knight who helps people, protects the weak, heals the sick, and feeds the poor.

You can become a Maltese Knight by invitation. That's true.

But I don't know how to get an invitation, it's sad. Especially since I'm only 16.

The Order I joined , 16 might be considered a bit young , it would be debatable as the requirement is to be 'of age ' and that can vary due to the time, location and individual . You enter by nomination and need two supporters or sponsors . However if you know someone, you can ask them about being nominated , but 'officially' they should invite you .

But do not let this stand in your way in your desire to be someone ' who helps people, protects the weak, heals the sick, and feeds the poor.' You can start doing that , or setting up or preparing the way to do that now .

I do suggest doing it for those people , but as well , you might be noticed and also if you do get to a situation where entry might be possible and you are asked what you do , you will have ' proof of your good intentions ' .

Thank you, I will continue to work hard so that I can join the Order in the future.

Live the life, and then ... maybe ... you will be deemed worthy of the honor of an invitation.

This from a Zen Buddhist, who personally thinks too much is made of the monastic life. Learning in one's bones mindfulness is certainly "easier" with a Master and clear set of doctrines, but isn't completely necessary. Mental discipline and being mindful of the Doctrine(s), you are more likely to inter-act with those who are suffering, and need the succor the needy. Feed the People, needs no fancy thinking, it is the compassion that is most needed. At the age of 16, believe me, you have no idea what the future has in store for you. You appear to have taken a good first step, the personal commitment to serve, and mitigate the suffering of the many. Let that be your guiding star wherever Wind and Wave may carry you. If you haven't read Candide, let me recommend it to you.

Because of the war, I had to grow up early, and I'm an orphan, so I have to earn my own living while I'm still in school. I hope you don't think this is a joke or a lie, but I was involved in the war to some extent, and I was injured by shrapnel, which left me with three small scars on my face. Despite this, I don't dwell on it and focus on sports, history, helping those in need, and striving to become worthy of restoring my family's knightly status.

I apologize, I misunderstood who I was talking to. You have already known how fickle life can be, no need to read Candide. If the Order doesn't seek you out with an invitation, they must be blind. You are a true Knight, more so than many who have been tapped by a ceremonial sword. Again, sorry for my mental lapse.

There's no need to apologize, everything is fine. I find your company very interesting, and I appreciate our conversation. I am very pleased with your words about me, thank you. May I know your name?

I'm Asherman, living in New Mexico. Keep your head down, there are enough martyrs already. Sometimes the dagger is better than the sword, but better still is just putting a potato in the ground. I'm afraid that your troubles will not be over soon.

My real name is Alexander, I am glad to meet you. I believe that God will help me overcome the challenges that I and millions of other people facing war are facing. In the meantime, I will continue to help those in need, treat the sick (as I have excellent medical skills), and feed the hungry. I hope that one day, I will be able to proudly call myself a true knight and a fighter for faith.
