Edited post.
I doubt that. That's been done over and over on other threads.
Wrong. Just because you have failed to convince me your opinion is correct doesn't necessarily mean you are actually right :).

As for Ilipa, it was an outstanding tactical and strategic victory, and would normally be considered a high point of anyone's career.

Unless someone proves me wrong, and then I change my opinions very quickly.

Not quite, When you accept that someone proves you wrong, then maybe you do change your opinions very quickly. The problem is that you dont accept you've been proved wrong, even when its very obvious to your interlocutor and everyone watching that you most definitely have.

There are some good comments here! I think that Ilipa was a very impressive victory for Scipio. Yes, I definitely agree that Hasdrubal Gisco does not appear to be anywhere near Scipio's level as a commander, however Scipio did a great job putting him into a position where he was off balanced and apparently unable to respond to Scipio's flanking attack. Yes, Hasdrubal was able to withdraw his army without it being destroyed, but Scipio followed up his victory in a way that led to its destruction anyway. I wouldn't go so far as saying Hasdrubal Gisco wasn't intelligent. It actually seems like he was a capable enough diplomat and strategist. However, it seems he was simply outmatched as a battlefield commander.
