Not equal in my view, but tragic. Israel responds to rocket attacks. Since the attackers are in civilian areas it can cause civilian deaths. Hamas has no legitimate reason to fire rockets into Israel. Responding to an attack is legitimate.

Toltec has a good point, essentially the local version of Newton's 3rd Law of motion Newton's Third Law .

Meaning of course that if people are still doing the same things in the same way, why should it be expected any different outcome ???

Under such terms, any number of years could be added to such equation; the outcome will always still be the same.

I'd never thought of Newton's Third Law as a philosophical anaylis of war before, but the comparison will probably stick with me till I go senile.

Enlighten an individual ignorant of HAMAS, what is their particular beef with Israel? I'm going to assume they are an extremist group rather than the actual government.

It's all Eye for an Eye... A cycle that will continue until one decides to turn the other cheek and treat others as....

even as an eternal optimist.. I got nothing. It will continue until one wipes out the other.

They're the democratically elected government. The beef is long and complex I'd read wiki.

The sad reality is that HAMAS, (their constitution thoughtfully translated by the Zionists, aside) wants them out of the lands they occupied since 1967 and a free Palestinian state. The Zionist refuse to talk to them and rattle their cage from time to time, so their extremists will set off a few rockets and give the Zionists an excuse to cull a few more innocents; just to keep the population down, you understand.

Challenger, your use of language while colourful, is inappropriate. Unless, of course, you have any documented evidence of an outbreak of Rabies or Psychosis amongst the Israeli population or government, I strongly suggest you tone down the rhetoric.

There particular beef is that Israel has no right to exist and must be destroyed. They are also on record as denying the Holocaust. They are an extremist group AND the actual government and receive funding from various Arab states, mostly Iran and Syria.

So how do you negotiate with a group sworn to your utter destruction AND deny the holocaust? They are nothing more than terrorists and they have fired a bit more than 'a few rockets', they have fired thousands. They fired over 3,000 in 2008 alone. What would England do if France fired 3,000 rockets at them? Just asking.

Mohammed the Persian has already posted this link, within the same thread you wish to balance.

It is very sad indeed, every innocent life taken is a tragedy.

My heart goes out to the murdered family in Israel, I can't imagine how horrible the surviving children must feel. I call those who would do such things cowards!

First off Hamas is a democratically elected government,so if u classify them as a terrorist organisation you should include the Palestinian majority who voted for them and gave them their full support.

Second point, you're right when you say that "Their particular beef is that Israel has no right to exist and must be destroyed.", but so does every other Arab ,including myself :) .Though "In early February, 2006, Hamas offered Israel a 10-year truce "in return for a complete Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Palestinian territories: the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem,"[105] and recognition of Palestinian rights including the "right of return."". So they are willing to compromise though Israel being the more powerful and dominant side are not!

Finally if your so adment that Israel should have a state , why dont you provide the isrealies with one of your 52 , the US is a pretty big country. After all why would a people want to stay in a place where they are obviously hated and unwanted , where there are other countries that love them and have plenty of room.

PS: sorry for the political post in a history forum .....just couldn't help myself :D

Was the creation of Israel a good idea? I don't think so. However, now they are there and there to stay.

Arab states MUST absolutely recognize Israel's right to exist otherwise we are going nowhere.

Naturally, both sides must compromise. On its part, Israel must also evacuate Jerusalem and renounce all claims to the holy city.

Without these two compromises, we are not going to see peace in the region.

I think they can agree to split Jerusalem between East and West, with the Palestinians getting East Jerusalem. What has to go is the West Bank settlements, those are a huge impediment to peace.

Some insiders have revealed (off the record) that Israel knows that the settlements cannot stay, and is terrified at the idea of them continuing to exist. The long they continue to exist the more difficult it will be for Israel to dismantle them, and if they're allowed to stay, it will almost certainly be the end of any idea of a two state solution. The Israelis are stuck between a rock and a hard place, but it will only get worse the longer this goes on.

I agree with you 100% Labineus , but the problem is that both sides hate each other and both sides are unwilling to compromise!
