As far as the mind can reach
In a few webnovels and one printed short story named 西洋 (The Occidental) by Liu Cixin (刘慈欣), the territories of China and USA are under ethnic Chinese.
For the webnovels, colonists from the rejuvenated Han Dynasty colonized North America and called the Native Americans 殷地安人 (the interpretation would be "People of the Shang land"); essentially, they tried to make the Native Americans believing that they are ethnically related to the Han people.
Would we be typing Chinese rather than English today?
How may the culture be different?

America will be like Taiwan if the Chinese populated the area and eliminated the barbaric aborigines there.

Chinese will be the language in the US.

but the question what kind of Chinese? if most came from Southern China, then the Chinese language will be Hookien or Cantonese.

Written Chinese has been the unifying force in China; this is the very disadvantage of alphabetic writing.
Pinyin is a great tool to learn the language; writing in pinyin will render anything unreadable!

In college I learned this is supposedly what the CCP does currently, both convincing non Han people's they are Han and consolidating separate minorities into new state manufactured minorities and convincing these people's they are that minority. I forgot the details(and the reason why the latter policy necessarily made sense) it was a few years back and it was one reading but this sounds very similar to that. Of course this isn't the Communists but that tactic had to come from somewhere?
