It has to be Laurence Olivier

She was stunningly beautiful, but also a fantastic actress, I love her movies. Charlton Heston was good looking too and a brilliant actor, he always came across like he was really the character, as did Elizabeth RIP.
I agree. Thank you for the marvellous photographs.

I hear ya! She was even more beautiful than the jewels she wore and adored.

Actors these days just don't seem to hit the same spot as the actors from these era's did, and that is coming from someone under the age of 30, a lot of the acting now is based on plastic looks and no talent, I love watching something where the acting is so good that you almost believe it to be real. They had more class too, for example, if something was sexual, it could be done in such a way that was plainly obvious and suggestive, yet you didn't feel like you were watching a blue movie.

Again, I agree with you. I fell in love with her as Cleopatra because she was...well... naked. But she also had the most beautiful violet coloured eyes and besides was a fine acress form childhood (National Velvet) through to her terrifying and convincing performance in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" which was like watching the neighbours next door battling it out. Riveting.

So true, the thing is though, even nakedness seemed to be more elegant back then, I guess the world is a little more 'blatant' now, it just seemed to have more class, naked or not.:D

I am always drawn into her performances too, Cleopatra was one of the first movies I saw Elizabeth in.

I think the world is more blatant nowadays yet I know people in their twenties who wouldn't dream of watching a movie made before they were born as it would appear to them false or dated; and suggest them to see something from the black & white days they'll simply feel sorry for you, yet the recent release "The Artist" filmed in b & w looks marvellous and "Schindler's List" was of course mainly b & w. Personally I enjoy everything from WD Griffith's "Birth of a Nation" to "Tintin". I'll never grow up in my growing old.

I like modern movies, I also like just as many older movies, even black and white films - depending on which one and the story line. But I am a lover of history... so who knows why...:)

As a lover of ancient history you'll probably like everything from Spartacus to Gladiator: even "300" and "Immortals" are highly watchable...all inspiring if not exactly historically accurate! Good fun.

Iconic? Maybe Schwarzenegger,

Maybe Charlie Chaplin...

Maybe Groucho Marx, because those glasses do exist just about everywhere.

And maybe Marilyn Monroe, because of the first cover issue of playboy and the dress blowing over the city grate.

When I thought about the most iconic actors, the very first name that sprang to mind was Clint Eastwood.

The first actress that sprang to mind was Sophia Loren

I suppose you can't get more iconic than that! Good choice.

Yes absolutely, I love all of these types of movies, even the unrealistic ones, I love the costumes, how they speak and the time periods, simply adore it.

Funny how some of us can be attracted to such periods of time.:)

No doubt you were a warrior in a past life or perhaps... future life! Ever thought of joining HM forces? Just a thought.

Haha no way! I am far too weak for such things. I like my hair and nails too much.

I am interested in history and the military but I have zero interest in joining the military, although I quite like a man in uniform. :D

I can't be labeled a girly ...., nor anything else, I am as complex as they come, Brian.:D On the one hand I like girly thing, on the other I read books about ancient warfare and battle etc... To meet me one would not expect to know my interests, to know my interests one would not expect to see how I am in person... sometimes I wish I was differnt and just mingled in with the crowd like normal, but that would be no fun.;)
