I apologize. But being a racist towards Chinese doesn't make you a scholar.

You, sir, are doing a good job of offending me. Thank you.

Good, Americans tend to do that, it's kind of our thing, you know.

I'm sorry if being blunt and non conformist, offended you, but Americans are known to be non conforming.

P.s. I never said I was a scholar, but I try to be as scholarly as I can, as should others, on this forum, as it is a historical forum.

But I am more offended by your racism. You try to avoid this issue for some personal reason. You will call Chinese members offensive names and such. In this Asian History subforum, you will encounter more Chinese members. How can you stop becoming a Sinophobic racist?

Stop calling me a racist, when I am of asian descent, myself. The most I can be, is a self internalized self racist, which I am not.

Now I stated that he was a Chinese man, which he stated prior. I talked of his nation , not of his ethnicity. Maybe you can call me an American nationalist.

Now if stating a Chinese man, that he is Chinese, is racist, then I guess I fit the latter.

I portrayed my personal opinion, which is my right, as a member of a democratic/capitalistic society. Thank you, very much.

Never have I seen a username that fits perfect to the personality of the poster. You are Historum's 'Cinderella'. The shoe fits perfectly.

I can only pray and hope that you stop talking about the corruption and problems that South Korea has (which every country has problems) and focus on the question pertaining the the thread.

Which is posted below to remind you:

With the Korean peninsula effectively divided and the effectiveness of capitalism in Korean showing a stark contract in development when compared to North Korea, does this benefit Japan? Does this benefit China? Are either of these countries overly concerned of unifying the peninsula?

Politically, I think it benefits both countries. It forces the Koreans to look within the peninsula for its enemy instead of looking outside of it. But just curious as to what others think.

On Unification

In response to the original post, NK and SK will never unify; it is way past the point of no return on this one. Whereas SK has had their "economic miracle", NK's citizens are starving because they spend all their money on their nuclear program, which will never catch up in quality to the first world nuclear technology anyway.

Unification would destroy the SK economy. First of all, it would cost billions of dollars to bring NK up to speed. Also, hordes of NK citizens would flood the job market in SK, taking all the service jobs and accept next to nothing as pay (kind of like Mexicans in the US).

China definitely does not want any kind of unification. It's only a matter of time before they completely annex the Korean peninsula anyway (I'd say in the next 30-50 years). There is a heavy anti-American military sentiment in SK, but without the US military, SK would not even exist today. They wouldn't have their smartphones and plastic surgery clinics; the Kim's would have won the war with China's support and the whole peninsula would all be just like North Korea is today. And without the US military still being there, there would be nothing stopping China from rolling in there and absorbing them.

If what I hear is true, and that the US is slowly pulling their forces out of SK and moving their "Asia" HQ operations to Australia. Then it is certainly only a matter of time before China absorbs them. Who will stop them? If you know anything about SK's military you know that they don't stand a chance against anyone by themselves. And the US definitely doesn't want to get involved in a war against the ever-emerging Chinese superpower with nothing to gain.

China will continue to bulid/strengthen its navy over the next couple decades while waiting for NK to completely collapse on itself. Then they will offer the Kims asylum (and maybe some beachfront property in Macau) and annex NK. Then SK is a sitting duck. Koreans will go balistic if you ever say this to them, but Korea is basically just a little piece of mainland China sticking out. It's theirs for the taking.

Basically....you put it in lamens terms bud. Korea has always had to struggle with colonizers, it's quite miraculous that Koreans have been able to keep their own cultural identity, with nothing but war hungry nations surrounding them.

South Korea's political corruption is directly related to the reunification process. You don't see this in the international news. For example, the recent talks between the two Koreas on the Gaeseong Industrial Area directly state about South Korea's political corruption.

What about China's blatant corruption!

Shanghai sons of powerful government officials, that can run rampant, in their Italian super cars, and get away with murder. While more than half the population of China can't even afford an automobile.

I thought we're talking about Korea(s)? You seem to love talking about China when someone talks negatively about Korea. It's ok. Don't worry.

And here's this comment that I made long time ago. Koreans and Korean-Americans need to understand South Korea's very dirty political situation that has gone over the course of the country's history. You know, Korean-Americans that I had been talked to only wants to accept the good things about South Korea and spin the worst aspects of South Korea into something very nice. I have to weep for this unfortunate thing.

Those who forgets the past will forget the future. Dishonesty will prevail.

Yes, this is a very big problem with SK society, rooted in Confucianism. There are so many obvious things with their current society, yet they generally just ignore them and pretend that everything is OK and not address the problem itself, all in this mindboggling efort to "save face" and prevent placing shame on anyone. It's insane, but wildly fascinating and entertaining to observe firsthand on a daily basis.

I know. Living in South Korea is like watching the TV series Breaking Bad but with more ridiculous slapstick comedy.

There's a saying "South Korea is already getting destroyed without North Korea firing a single rifle" (북한이 소총을 발사하지 않아도 대한민국이 벌써 망하고 있다.)

And I believe that China should indirectly rule Korea again. Koreans in the Korean Peninsula can't govern themselves anyways as proven in their modern history.

Very true. South Korea has no identity of their own. As a nation they are mired in this self-loathing sense of insecurity, which incredibly drives every aspect of their society, as well as how they deal with other countries.

Right on with that last point. China will rule Korea again. It's only a matter of time.

You are really going to need to explain that one to me. How is South Korea becoming a bad guy to anyone except through Samsung competing wildly with Apple? Other than that I can find no reason to picture The South as being bad to anyone.

It's very simple. Every other Asian country has grown to detest South Koreans. Because they have been ..... and bitchslapped around by their big brother neighbors for most of their history, they have this insane bult in insecurity, which directly causes them to have this unfathomable sense of entitlement. They way they deal with foreign companies is absolutely insane (the reason there are no apple stores in SK).

Also, they go abroad to other asian countries, acting loudly and obnoxiously, acting like everthing belongs to them, and causing drunken mischief everywhere they go. I could really go on and on about this but I'm going to choose not to.

This excerpt is from an article from the Chosun Ilbo:

"Koreans rank among the top clients of prostitutes in Southeast Asia, ahead even of Japanese and Chinese travelers, extensive research suggests. The conclusion comes from research by the Korean Institute of Criminology that included field surveys in Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and the Philippines, study of UN reports and other relevant documents, interviews with local social workers and neighbors, and arrest records at local police stations. "

"In its 2010 report, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime said Korean men were the prime clients of child prostitutes in Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam. The U.S. State Department's annual report on human trafficking also points to Korean men as being the main clients of child prostitutes in Southeast Asia and Pacific islands, and added that the Korean government has yet to crack down on offenders or attempted to curb the trend."
In terms of socially acceptable behavior, South Koreans are truely unlike any other people in the world.

It's just with you, I have to do this, because you already stated , with your perceptions and views, that you seem to have pro communist ideals.

Those pro communist ideals, filter down, into your objectivity of korean society.
So.......yea, that's why.

That's cool, I don't condone .........., but you can't say all korean men, love south East Asian kids.

South Korea does, currently, have a problem with marrying foreign brides from mainly south East Asian countries and central asian countries, like Tajikistan ect.

Know we also have a problem with mail order brides in America, ever heard of Russian brides?. Anyways that's not the topic, but I'm just using it as a comparison.

Now the mail bride thing isn't a big problem in the US, because we've always been multi ethnic.

Now with South Korea , it is more of a problem , because the South Korean identity, doesn't conform to other ethnicities.

Which puts the countries, identity at question, and questions its foreign policies.

It's not a baseless claim. I live in South Korea. I observe their society on a daily basis.

If so, what is it? They do not have their own identity. They are a "nation" residing on a Chinese peninsula that has been handed back and forth between greater powers for much of their existence. That coupled with the fact that they sprung from a poor post-war nation into a top-15 economy in a matter of a few decades leaves them in a situation today where they really have no idea who they are. They are an ancient Confucianistic hierarchal society with all the glamorous toys of the real first world.

If they had their own identity, they wouldn't be so obsessed with plastic surgery, and the constant need to be patted on the back from the rest of the G20. Most of their culture is derived from Chinese or Japanese culture anyway. They know this, and that is why they desperately cling to anything that is considered "traditional" Korean, like eating rotten feremented cabbage at every meal.
