What if China had been colonised (fully)?

What if the United Kingdom kept it's offensive on China, and eventually colonised it?

In fact, what do you think would've happened if ANY European country had colonised China?

My view: There Communist revolution would not have occurred. I hate the Communists, they really ruined China. I wonder what Britain could've done for China.

What do you mean by ruined? If it wasn't for Mao China would still be as unstable, poor and backward as it was under the nationalists.

Not necessarily.

I think the US would've backed the Kuomintang up, and given loans to China and heavily invest in China, just like they did in South Korea, and Japan, in order to stop Communism.

If US had given the loans earlier, the Kuomintang could've easily crushed some guerilla group.

In the case of heavy US influence, China would've become quite stable, quite developed, and above all, democratic, in a very short period.

That's American colonialism for you.

More likely it would remain a corrupt dictatorship with 90% of wealth in the hands of Chang and his cronies. The people would be poor and oppressed, as was the case in the South American military regimes the US supported during the Cold War, and many regions would be controlled by warlords.

Aren't the people in China poor and oppressed today anyway?

Either way, I see no future for the people of China.

Not the ones i know. They seem happy under communism as they have better housing in modern futuristic cities, a job and the consumer goods they never had before.
Communism is ideally suited to China as the people are naturally hard workers who are willing to build the world of the future. The reason it failed in Europe is because the people became disillusioned and demoralised by the party's failures.

What rewards does Communism give to hard workers? Does Communism give anything for the hard workers to look forward to?

If anything, it demoralises hard workers, who have to work even harder to fill in for the lazy people. Humans are naturally lazy, and would prefer someone else to do their work.

I say bring back the Monarchy.

That's an interesting question. How about this -

After the Taiping Civil War (1851 - 1862) (20 million - 200 million killed), the imperialist powers seize their chance. Japan takes Korea, Manchuria, Fukien, Hainan, and Taiwan. Russia takes Sinkiang, Mongolia and Inner Mongolia. France takes Yunnan. Germany gets Shantung. Britain takes what's left, from Tibet east to the coast. Perhaps the several treaty ports are operated as condominiums of the five powers. Perhaps not.

OK. What happens next? I dunno. Somebody gets greedy?
