One of My favorites is Guadalcanal. The 1st Marine division pretty much had to take on the Japanese alone and they kicked ... doing it. Guadalcanal is one of the reasons that the 1st Marine division has the reputation it does

I'd say the major battles of the Overland Campaign; the Wilderness, Spotsylvania Courthouse, Yellow Tavern, the North Anna Crossing, Haw's Shop, and Cold Harbor.

Cold Harbor was pretty much a WW1 battle fought in 1864. It showed for certain that the old tactics like the firing line were outmoded and suicidal. Here's the most striking thing to Me about the battle,a picture of the bone collectors in April 1865 at Cold Harbor

Battle of Britain and Battle of Midway for World War 2 battles. For tank battle I like the Battle of Golan Heights.

The Battle of Vienna; which saw the greatest cavalry charge in history (September 1683) - significant victory over Ottoman Janissaries: Turned the tide of a 300 year old struggle between Christianity and Islam in Europe. Had everything, "subterranean battlefield" of sappers mining the city's substantial walls and defenders battling to defuse them. Relieving armies led by the famed "Winged Hussars" arrive on the mountains surrounding the city, just after the walls are breached. Resulting in a prolonged infantry battle and the largest cavalry charge in history with the city garrison sailing out of the gates to join the attack on the vast besieging army.

Thought to be inspiration for the fictional Lord of the Rings battle at Helm's Deep.

Too many for me to pick a favorite. My short list of tactical masterpieces:
Pharsalus, Dara, Blenheim, Leuthen, Cowpens, Austerlitz, and (though really an operation) "Sickle Stroke", northern France 1940

As a young teen I had a game from Avalon Hill on Waterloo. I had others that I personally liked more but Waterloo was our favorite one to actually play.

Threads like this one serve as a reminder that I know almost nothing of history. Can't even tell you what most of the battles named are or who fought them.
